a new type of joint which has be-come known as the Victory jointwas introduced. In this joint thereis only a small fillet of solder at thejunction between the sleeve and thecable sheath, instead of the for-mer ball-like section of solder. Theamount of solder in a Victory jointis less than 40 percent as much asin the older joint; and inasmuchas the solder used for wiping jointsconsists of about one-third tin (nearlyall of the rest is lead), the Victory 1943 Getting Along With What We Have 195 joint has been an especially effectivemeasure in conserving the use of tin—of which there is such a scarcity.This new technique saves about iio,-000 pounds yearly in the amountof tin that is used for maintainingand repairing existing cables. There places throughout the country to rep-resentatives of all the AssociatedCompanies, skilled in splicing work,so that they could introduce it in theirrespective companies.
