Associated with each trunk isa lamp signal which lights wheneverthat trunk has been selected on a callfor Information, and the operatorselects the trunk on which she wishesto answer by manually operating an answering key which is provided foreach incoming trunk. This kind ofequipment is generally used in thesmaller Information Bureaus, wherethe volume of traffic does not requirethe use of large teams of operators.The trunks can be multipled to asmany positions as are needed to han-dle the traffic during the busiest periodof the day. When the volume of traffic is suchthat more trunks are required thancan be terminated on one position,two or more groups of positions anda corresponding number of teams ofoperators must be used.
