[edit]
Description

c/n 1576 Built in 1957 as an H-13J-BF with the US military serial 57-2729. Assigned to the Presidential Flight at Washington National Airport and upgraded with metal rotor blades and anti-glare tinting on the nose bubble. On 12th July 1957 President Eisenhower became the first United States President to travel by helicopter when he flew in this aircraft. They were both removed from Presidential duties in 1961 and used for VIP duties by the 1001st Helicopter Squadron at Bolling AFB. The pair were re-designated as a UH-13Js in 1962 and retired in 1967. ‘72729’ was transferred to the Smithsonian Institute by the USAF in 1968 and is seen on display at the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum. Washington Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, Virginia
