Description |
English: Sheet copper alloy rumbler or closed bell, spherical in shape, with a single strap loop that is 2.6 mm in diameter, and two opposing sound holes, that are 1.5 mm in diameter. The bell is made in two parts, from two hemispherical halves soldered together. The suspension loop is attached to the half that is decorated with stamped motifs of clusters of crescents and scrolls.
Read (2001) illustrates a mount with similar crescentic decoration on page 36, Fig.21, No.320, which is dated from the 17th century. Read (1988) illustrates two buttons with similar decoration on page 146, Nos.968 & 978, which are dated from the 17th century. Margeson (1993) illustrates a sheet copper alloy bell in two hemispheres with a similar strap loop on page 214, Fig.162, No.1762B, which is dated from the Post-medieval period. |
