Summary

Description

High Street, Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

English: High Street as seen from the height of the Bridge Street, looking east towards the Albert Memorial. Most of the buildings in this area were destroyed by the blitz with the exception of the National Bank. The brick building at the left was erected in 1955 in a Neo-Georgian style after the design of the Belfast architects Young & Mackenzie. (See DIA record, James Stevens Curl, Making Dystopia: The Strange Rise and Survival of Architectural Barbarism, plates 1.2a+1.2b, Google Books .)
