Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Behn-Brunnen (Behn fountain, named after 19th century mayor of Altona, Carl Heinrich Caspar Behn) in Hamburg-Altona at the corner of Behnstraße and Königstraße. It shows an Oceanid holding a small ship (a cog) in her right hand, and some branch in the left. (The branch was only restored in 2015, and an Internet source speaks of an olive branch, but it looks more like a laurel branch to me.) The fish at the bottom are capable of shooting out water, but the fountain was dry when this picture was taken. (The same source speaks of “dolphins” but again I must call into question its powers of observation.) The sculptor was Wilhelm Giesecke.
