Title
Beehive thimble
Description
English: A complete copper alloy 'beehive' thimble dating from the medieval/post-medieval period, c. AD1400-1550. This thimble is circular in plan and the walls taper inwards from the base towards the crown. The outer face has, in the upper part, five lines of sub-circular indentations/drilled pits which run around the upper part of the thimble to the apex. The apex is bare and there is a central perforation. The lower half of the thimble is decorated with drilled dotted vertical lines. The base is decorated with two circumferential grooves. The inner face of the object is smooth and undecorated.
