Summary
[edit]DescriptionBee swarm day2.jpg |
This photography shows a bee swarm of Apis mellifera on a great maple tree. Notes Day 0 (2008-05-21): The bee swarm arrived and settled down on a branch pointing to the south (02:28 p.m., T= 19.0 °C ☼).). (Temperature at night= 5.0°C) Day 1 (2008-05-22): The bee swarm formed a cone-shaped cluster on the branch. (T=18.0°C cloudy). Some bees went on the scout for a new home. (Temperature at night= 13.0°C) Day 2 (2008-05-23): The bee swarm left the great marple tree in the time between 11:00 a.m. (T=20.6°C ☼, partly cloudy) and 11:55 a.m. (T=22.1°C ☼, partly cloudy). The following analysis will attempt to give a conservative estimate based on the assumption that a leaf blade of Acer pseudoplatanus measures from top to the basis 12 cm and the cluster is a straight truncated cone bounded by a plane base in the shape of a circle and another one on top. The bee swarm cluster on the great marple branch measured a length of 60 cm with a maximum width of 20 cm at the upper top and a minimum width of 12 cm at the lower top by an approximate calculated volume of 2.4 litres. |
