Description
English: Bee Hive (Tromber)

English name = Bee hive Kashmeri name = Tromber

Man cannot collect honey himself or by any kind of invented machine. God has created a tiny beneficial insect, honey bee, that collects nectar from all kinds of flowers. In a colony, bees are of three types , a single queen capable of laying eggs continuously for five years mating only once in her life span. Males are few in number they are called drones, . Rest of the population in colony, thousands in number are workers without any sex, work in and outside the hive, by collecting nectar for making honey and wax. Wax is used in making honey combs. There are architectural, well designed polygonal chambers in which nectar of flower is deposited as a reserve food for themselves or laying of eggs by the queen when needed, they also keep whole comb neat and clean.
Honey is one of the best tonics, sweetest of all, liked and consumed by all status of people or given to babies and infants to maintain their vigour and power of memory. In Kashmir particullarly in villages hobby of rearing bees has now changed into commercial business. Many villagers have adopted it as business in hilly areas.People make either mud hives directly installed in rooms with walls of their houses Or prefer to make wooden bee hives. It is a primitive type of bee hive where 3-4 ft. long log or stump of wood is made hallow by carving inside. Both ends are sealed leaving a hole for entrance for bees, this wooden bee hive is light, portable and can be moved from place to place when there is scarcity of flowers in plains and the flowers sprout in hilly areas. Since people in villages cannot afford to purchase government made bee hive because of being much costlier, they make ordinary and very old type of bee hives because of the availability of wood in forests.
