Description

Photographing across traffic, I sensed the van approaching as a favourite coach emerged from the morning tea stop. Well, I caught the front. AE Freeman operated a one-man fleet in association with HA Verrall, both of Loughton. Both bought mid sized coaches new, and registered them in Essex. STW705M is a Duple Dominant bodied Bedford YRQ, new 1974. I think this vehicle replaced RTW 593K , a Duple-YRQ. Verrall operated ROO849K at the same time. In the early 60s, Elmhurst coaches operated 3 vehicles, with Messrs Verrall and Freeman joint owners. One of Verrall's early vehicles, a Ford 570E - Plaxton, JOO987 survived into the 21st century in France and may still exist after nearly 50 years...see the Travellers' buses site of Traveller Dave, via Arthur Bennett of Gloucester.. Perhaps Mr Freeman is at the wheel.

This coach may have survived until the end of private operation in Malta in 2011 - see comment below] - a life of 35 years.
