Description
English: The Saint Petersburg Bede is an early surviving manuscript of Bede's 8th century history, the Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum. It is so named because it was taken to the Russian National Library of Saint Petersburg in Russia at the time of the French Revolution.
Français : Le Bede de Saint-Pétersbourg est l'un des premiers manuscrits survivants de l'histoire de Bede au VIIIe siècle, l' Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum. Il porte ce nom car il a été transporté à la Bibliothèque nationale russe de Saint-Pétersbourg en Russie au moment de la Révolution française.

English: A monk at the Northumbrian monastery of Saint Peter at Monkwearmouth (today part of Sunderland), England who is well known as an author and scholar, and his most famous work, Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (The Ecclesiastical History of the English People) gained him the title "The Father of English History". He was made a Doctor of the Church by Leo XIII in 1899.
