Summary
[edit]DescriptionBeckwithshaw Church 23 Feb 2014 009.jpg |
Belfry in tower of St Michael and All Angels Church, Beckwithshaw, North Yorkshire, England. The legend on the bells says "Mears & Stainbank Founders London". There is no public access to the belfry or roof. This is bell 2, which hangs under bell 1. Note on image quality: This is a rare and atmospheric image of a bell, showing a good impression of depth of field, in a dark and shaded situation where there is no public access, and no artificial lighting. Flash photography would have brought out detail, but in a flat manner, and there are already alternative flash-photographed images of this bell in the same Wikimedia Commons category. This effect was carefully achieved by photographing the bell with no flash, achieving a completely black image. The black image was then edited by raising the gamma to an extreme, until this beautiful image appeared from the blackness. It is unnecessary to replace the image with a normal one because (1) there are already normal images of this bell in the same category, and (2) this image is irreplaceable. Should anyone wish to use the image on a poster or book-cover about the bells, it would be more useful than the detailed images of the bells in their bell-frame, because this image would more easily allow a contrast applied printed title to show up clearly across these broad areas of textured colour. Please understand that not every useful image conforms to the type of standard typically chosen for Wikimedia Commons featured images. |
