The 1956 annual report covers a year of significant expansion. In November 1955, the company's stock was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The number of employees grew by nearly fifty percent, to 3,020, and William Shockley joined the company. Land was purchased for new facilities in Newport Beach, California, and Munich, Germany. |
