1900 Royal Enfield Quadricycle

Summary

[edit]
Description

1900 Royal Enfield Quadricycle British In 1893, the Enfield Manufacturing Co. Ltd began production of bicycles. Having previously won a contract to supply precision rifle parts to the Royal Small Arms Factory, the advertising slogan "Made Like a Gun" was adopted. By 1898 a number of cycle firms were constructing motorised quadricycles. The renamed Enfield Cycle Company decided to make its first tentative experiments. Works manager, Bob Walker Smith designed this, the Work's prototype for his own personal use. Seating the driver over the engine and behind the passenger, it closely followed the lines of the popular De Dion 'quad'. It was stored at the factory before coming to Beaulieu in 1958. Cylinders: 1 Capacity: 244cc Maximum Speed: 30mph Valves: Overhead Power Output: Not known Price New: Not quoted Manufacturer: Enfield Cycle Company Limited, Redditch, Worcestershire Owner: Montagu Collection

Housing a collection of over 250 automobiles and motorcycles telling the story of motoring on the roads of Britain from the dawn of motoring to the present day, the award winning (Winner - The International Historic Motoring Awards of the Year 2012) National Motor Museum appeals to all age groups. From World Land Speed Record Breakers including Campbell’s famous Bluebird to film favourites such as the magical flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and rare oddities like the giant orange on wheels. Don’t miss exciting extra features such as the Motorsport Gallery, Wheels and Jack Tucker's Garage - A permanent, multi award-winning 1930's garage has been created within the Museum, complete down to the last nut and bolt and rusty drainpipe. Whilst the building is a complete fabrication, everything in it - all the fixtures, fittings, tools and ephemera - are genuine artefacts collected over a period of 25 years.
