Description

Schematic overview of the COMPASS beam line for muons. The primary proton beam is decouple from the SPS and steered on the production target T6 (beryllium), where secondary hadrons are produced. In the decay line, the pions and the kaons decay to muons. Remaining hadrons are absorber. The monetum selection is done with dipole magnets, allowing to select a beam momentum between 100-200 GeV. The momentum is measured by beam momentum stations.

For hadron beams, the absorber are removed, allowing the hadrons to reach the experiment.
