Title |
Beaker barbed and tanged arrowhead (profile) |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead, arrow-shaped in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and section. The tip of the arrowhead is missing and one of the barbs is also missing its tip, possibly having been broken off during use. The other barb is short and pointed and does not extend to the end of the tang. The arrowhead is bifacially worked throughout on both the dorsal and ventral faces.
The flint is a dark grey colour, apart from slightly lighter margins from weathering, and may have come from Beer Head in Devon. The length to breadth ratio is now 1:1, but would have originally been about to 3:2, as the length would have been about 27 mm when complete. The arrowhead is slightly small for its type but generally compares well to examples from the Beaker period. Bond (2004) illustrates similar examples on page 125, Fig.5.110, Sutton Type j, and on page 147, Fig.5.133, No.F177, which are dated to the Beaker period. |
