| Description |
English: Beacon Road. Beacon road at the junction with Oakley Avenue.
Beacon Road used to be called Oakley Lane and was the main route up to the Beacon on Billinge Hill. It was also the access route to the quarry before an alternative access road was built when the quarry closed and landfill started. Before the modern Oakley Avenue was built this was just a path up to the Milk n Hay. The modern OS map still shows the footpath as continuous from Upholland Road to Main Street. |
