| Description |
English: Baysdale - controlled moor burning Heather and dead bracken being burnt as land management on Little Hograh moor.
Left unburnt too long, the area becomes endangered by serious fires in the Summer which burn very hot and will get into the under-lying peat. Also regular fires (usually about every 10 years) helps minimise scrub encroachment onto the heather moorland. The patchwork of areas at different stages of regrowth is beneficial to most wildlife as well as sheep and grouse. |
