Summary

Description Native, warm season, perennial, slender, erect sedge 20-90 cm tall and with long rhizomes. Stems are rigid, terete, 1–3-noded and 1–2 mm diam. Leaves are both basal and cauline; the blades are reduced to short erect flattened mucros; sheaths are straw-coloured to pale reddish or grey-brown. Flowerheads are narrow, erect and 1–8 cm long. Spikelets are few in number, 1-flowered and 3–6 mm long. Glumes number 4 or 5 and are red-brown to grey-brown. Flowering is in spring and summer. Grows mostly in coastal brackish or saline swamps, on sandy soils.
