Description

A reconstruction of the Battle of Alvøen, 16 May 1808, during the "Gunboat war" of 1807-1814. Alvøen is outside Bergen, western Norway. The reconstruction took place at 16 May 2008.

The small gunboat in front is Øster Riisøer 3, identical to the type of boat used in the battle. The white ship flying british colours is the Norwegian ship Loyal, which at this event took the role as HMS Tartar, which nearly lost the battle in 1808, but managed to escape.

The Norwegian gunboat is flying Danish colours, because Denmark and Norway were in a union at the time of the battle.
