Summary
[edit]Description |
English: Battle damage on an U.S. Navy Douglas A-1H Skyraider (BuNo 135239) of Attack Squadron 176 (VA-176) "Thunderbolts" after it returned to the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) following a July 1966 combat mission over Vietnam reveals the ruggedness of the design that allowed many a pilot to return to safely to base. VA-176 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 10 (CVW-10) aboard the Intrepid for a deployment to Vietnam from 4 April to 21 November 1966. The A-1H 135239 was repaired but was shot down by flak 5 km off the coast of the Ha Tinh province, North Vietnam, on 22 September 1966. The pilot bailed out but drowned. |
