Summary
[edit]DescriptionBattleOfShilohDay1priorto4pm.png |
English: This image is from a West Point atlas that has been rotated so north is at the top, and TwoScarsUp has added more labels to make it easier to read. (Note that the "North arrow" is not perfectly straight "up"—this is correct.) The map shows the positions of the Union and Confederate armies on the Shiloh battlefield just before 4:00 pm on April 6, 1862. The locations of the Crossroads and the Hornets Nest are based on maps in "Shiloh and the Western Campaign of 1862" by O. Edward Cunningham on pages 220 and 239. West Point's positioning of the Union troops agrees with Cunningham's map on page 260. The West Point text has McArthur moving back to the Landing around 3:00 pm, but Cunningham writes that this happened when Hurlbut moved back around 4:00 pm. |
