| Description |
In front is a sculpture that used to grace the World Trade Center Plaza. When the Twin Towers collapsed on 11 September 2001, the sculpture sustained extensive damage, but was not destroyed. The damaged sculpture was brought to Battery Park and erected in its damaged state six months later, as a reminder of the tragedy. I remember how it once stood in the plaza in the 1990s. As I kill time before heading over to 9/11 Memorial for my appointed timed entry, the events are starting to become personal for me. In the distance, the Twin Towers would have stood where there is a huge gap in the sky today. Though immediately to the north of the Twin Towers' location, a new One World Trade Center building is going up to fill the void. |
