Description
Français : Avalisé par Joffre, le front de résistance français du 24 août en soirée a été conçu et mis en oeuvre par le général Castelnau dès les premières heures de la défaite du 20 août. Il se caractérise par deux positions en avancée (1) au nord-ouest et incombant à la 2e armée de Castelnau, celle du Grand-Couronné fortifié protégeant Nancy et (2) au sud-est et incombant à la 1e armée de Dubail, celle de la rive gauche (sud) de la Meurthe en amont de Baccarat. Et entre les deux - sur 30 km entre Flainval-Crévic et Baccarat donc - dans la "trouée de Lunéville" - une nasse destinée à piéger les forces allemandes. Nasse tenue par les 83 000 fantassins d'attaque et les 20 000 canonniers (avec leurs 400 canons de 75) des 15e, 16e, 8e et 13e corps d'armée.
