Arms of Bassingbourne of Woodhall (alias "Hatfield Woodhall"), Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire: Gyronny of twelve azure and or, as seen in stained glass in the east window of the Hare Chapel of Holy Trinity Church, Stow Bardolph, Norfolk. Sir w:Nicholas Hare (c.1484-1557), Master of the Rolls, Speaker of the House of Commons, and on the accession of Queen Mary to the Crown, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, married Catherine Bassingbourn, a daughter and co-heiress of John Bassingbourn of Woodhall in Hertfordshire. Woodhall Lodge, near Watton at Stone, Herts., was the seat of Sir Henry Boteler (fl.1566/83), who married firstly Catharine Waller, a daughter of Robert Waller, of Hadley, Middlesex; secondly Alice Pulter, da. of Edward Pulter of Great Wymondley, Herts.
