Title
Base silver button
Description
English: A copper alloy disc, possibly part of a sleeve button, originally thought to be silver. The upper surface has two hearts conjoined beneath a single crown. The lower surface has remnants of lead adhering to it. The diameter of the disc is 12.34mm and it is 2.3mm thick.

The device of conjoined hearts may have commemorated the marriage of Charles II of England to Catherine of Braganza in 1662. A similar button was found by a metal detectorist at Rochester in Kent, whilst another was found in Virginia, USA.

Analysis at the British Museum confirmed a base-metal alloy.
