| Description |
English: Bascote Locks near Long Itchington, Warwickshire There are four locks in the Bascote flight, the top two being built as a staircase. This is the view from the third one down (No 16), looking past its top gates towards the staircase. The gentleman by the paddle mechanism has wound the paddles up with his windlass. The rod protruding from the top indicates that water will be entering the lock through an underground culvert, raising the boat which is off camera to the right, to the level of the pound above the gates.
The flight of four locks raises the water level by 26ft 9in (about 8.2 metres). |
