Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Basalt quenched blob in dacite in Lassen Volcanic National Park, California. The dark patches within the rock are called quenched blobs. During the molten stage, the basalt magma mixed with the dacite magma. Basalt magma is hotter than dacite magma. The basalt blobs were quenched - cooled suddenly. The mixing of the two magmas likely triggered the May 1915 eruption of Lassen Peak volcano.
