| Description |
English: Barrow, Windmill Hill, near Winterbourne Monkton Windmill Hill was occupied about 5,500 years ago in the Neolithic period. There are signs of earthworks such as banks and ditches to be found although nowhere near as well-defined as other settlements such as Liddington and Barbury north of here in Swindon. This is a bell barrow according to the National Trust signs at the entrances to the hill. The other barrows are bowl barrows and saucer barrows. This one has a ditch around it. Beyond in the far distance can be seen the arable areas west of the Winterbournes. |
