Description
English: Ólavsøka is the national holiday of the Faroe Islands, it is held on 28 and 29 July. Kappróður (boat races in Faroese wooden rowing boats) are among the events of 28 July. This photo was taken just before the children's rowing started at around 2 in the afternoon. These girls come from Suðuroy, the southernmost island, from the village Tvøroyri. They are rowing with a boat called Hulda, it is a so-called 5-mannafar, which has 6 rowers and a coxswain. The boat club from Tvøroyri is called Froðbiar Sóknar Róðrarfelag, named after the village Froðba, which is 1-2 km east of Tvøroyri.
