English: Barmston Main Drain at Barmston Sea End, south-east of Barmston, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. As part of a target that at least 10% of construction aggregates were to be from recycled or secondary sources the Environment Agency used approximately 300 tonnes of recycled coping stones as sea defence to protect cliffs at Barmston Sea End from erosion (Select Committee on Environmental Audit https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm199899/cmselect/cmenvaud/426/426ap68.htm ). A life-boatman's house and lifeboat station, built and closed in the 19th century, was once located at the mouth of Barmston Main Drain. World War Two defences saw the mouth of the Barmston Main Drain protected by anti-tank cubes at TA 1727 5867¹ and a ditch, with a gun emplacement and trench at TA 1716 5873. Text adapted from these English-Heritage documents http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/RCZAS_Bempton_to_Donna_Nook_Part_1_Report.pdf and http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/Pages_from_RCZAS_Bempton_to_Donna_Nook_Part_2_Gazetteers_and_Maps-1.pdf?1268255417 , which also contain much additional information about the area. Although the outfall is some 200metres distant water was being moved in the drain by the action of the sea as evidenced by the slight waves seen emanating from the grating. Primary photograph location TA 17145 58621 recorded from an Environment Agency notice attached to the railings. ¹Due to coastal erosion these features no longer survive. - - - See also these photographs by: Paul Glazzard:
