[edit]DescriptionBarics Gwyr Mon at Pentre Newydd - geograph.org.uk - 1428838.jpg |
English: Barics Gwyr Mon at Pentre Newydd. Barics Gwyr Mon (=barracks of the men of Anglesey) were built to house quarry workers (mainly labourers)from that county who lodged in these insanitary units from Monday to Friday, returning back to their homes in Anglesey on Saturday afternoons. Their journey back to Dinorwig on Monday mornings began about 4am.
The barracks were last used in the early 1930s. This photo shows the units on the north side of the settlement. 1428840 |
