Description

La Estación de Francia fue construida por los arquitectos Pedro Muguruza y Fernando Gallego Herrera —mientras que el vestíbulo fue obra de Raimon Duran i Reynals—, e inaugurada por Alfonso XIII en 1929. Es un edificio con una estructura de hierro en estilo modernista edificado entre 1925 y 1929. Fue una de las últimas estaciones de Europa edificadas en ese estilo y es actualmente la única en la ciudad de Barcelona que destaca por su carácter histórico y artístico.

Los edificios envuelven las vías en forma de "U" y están fabricados con materiales considerados de lujo como mármol y bronce con vidrieras decorativas. Las 12 vías numeradas de la Nº3 a la Nº14 y sus andenes situados dentro de la "U" están cubiertos por dos marquesinas metálicas de 29 m de alto y 195 m de longitud que en parte están en curva hacia la izquierda. Completan las instalaciones de la estación 2 vías con andén en la parte exterior de la marquesina numeradas de la Nº1 a la Nº2 y diversas vías de estacionamiento . Además, a la salida de la estación, a la izquierda del túnel de la línea general, hay otro túnel para mantenimiento de trenes. Está considerada como una de las estaciones de tren más bonitas de España.
