Title
Barbarous radiate or imitation billon Antoninianus of Claudius II. Obverse view.
Description
English: A complete, Roman, struck or hammered, copper alloy probable barbarous radiate or imitation billon Antoninianus of Claudius II, struck after his death. Obverse: Radiate bust right with a sharp nose and close cropped beard. Inscription: [IMP CLAV]D[IVS AVG]. Reverse: Altar - consecrated in memory. Inscription: [CONSECRATIO]. Mint name: British by provenance. Die axis: 12 o'clock. The coin is slightly worn - very fine condition. The coin has a rusty brown 'sandy' encrusted surface probably due to the water-logged ground conditions, an irregular flan with a small notch and the reverse is struck a little off centre. The coin is likely to date to 270-273AD. Ref.
