Description
Français : Baraques derrière le Manège militaire de Québec en 1945
« En 1945, Québec fait face à une grave crise du logement. Pour héberger des familles dans le besoin, le maire de l'époque, Lucien Borne, demande au gouvernement fédéral de lui prêter ses baraques militaires érigées sur les «Coves Fields» ayant servi de camp de prisonniers allemands. L'endroit est surnommé «faubourg de la misère», «punaises-ville», ou pire encore, de «bidonville» tant les conditions de vie y sont exécrables. En 1946, une chapelle et même une école sont construites. Les derniers occupants quitteront le miséreux village en 1951. Aujourd'hui, ce terrain situé au pied de la citadelle, derrière le Manège militaire accueille un stationnement. » – Annie Mathieu, Le Soleil
