| Description |
English: Bantry Post Office. During the bitter Civil War of 1922 - 23, on the night of 30 August 1922, Anti-Treaty forces under the command of Brigadier Commandant Gibbs Ross, attacked Bantry Post Office. During the engagement Ross was shot in the head, and died shortly after. His is the first name on the plaque outside Bantry Courthouse commemorating those who died during 'The Troubles' of 1920 - 1923. 504776 |
