Summary
[edit]DescriptionBank of overlapping disc barrows on Setley Plain, New Forest - geograph.org.uk - 302620.jpg |
English: Bank of overlapping disc barrows on Setley Plain, New Forest On the southern edge of this grid square, on the gently westward sloping side of Setley Plain, a pair of bronze-age disc barrows survive. They are unusual in that their circular ditches and outer banks intersect to form a figure of eight shape. The barrows were dug into in the late 18th century, and the mutilation to the central mounds can still be seen. This is the southern part of the bank surrounding the most easterly barrow (central mound is to the right). Photo taken exactly one year on after this one: 99082 |
