[edit]DescriptionBangkok Vimanmek Mansion 2.jpg |
English: Located within the Dusit Palace complex, Vimanmek Mansion is “The world’s largest golden teakwood building”. This mansion was constructed, by order of King Rama V, through reassembling of materials dismantled from Munthatu Rattanaroj Residencein Chuthathuj Rachathan palace on Koh Si Chang. While spending time here, he authored a Thai classic tragedy “Ngor Pa”.
The mansion was designed through a combination of the Victorian style and applied Thai art, and was built in an L-shape. Each wing extends 60 metres long, and is 3-storey high, except for the octagonal corner in the middle of the L-shape which has 4 storeys. The interior features 31 rooms with an average of 15-30 metres in width, divided into particular themes with 5 different main colours - light blue, green, pink, ivory, and peach. Each room was planned and designed by King Rama V, in collaboration withH.R.H. Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongs, for example, a V-shaped throne room; a reception room for foreign guests, a library, a Croquet court (Croquet derived from a French term refers to a sport popular among the elite classes in Europe), porcelains and chinaware display room, and so on. |
