Feeling pretty good about the hike up Tunnel Mountain on Saturday, on Sunday morning we decided to give Sulphur Mountain a try. We knew it's snow capped and will likely encounter snow and ice, but we'll give it a try and turn back if needed. The path was well beaten, and the higher portions certainly had snow and ice. The most difficult part was probably about half way up where the ground had a lot of ice build up, but once you get past the icy parts, it becomes thicker snow. I'd say ~2 inches thick for the most part and not too slippery. We did make it to the top and enjoyed a nice swiss mocha up there. We ventured to the weather station as well, very cool place. The sign at the trail head said free gondola rides down all Winter, so we intend to take advantage of that quite a lot. The shoulder seasons are a great time to get out and see Banff without the large crowds. There's usually deals to be had as well for hotels. Always ask about Alberta resident rates. :) We didn't stay this weekend, but there'll be more to come.
