I am standing on a center divider for Banff Avenue, which is the main thoroughfare of the Town of Banff. And that is Cascade Mountain in the background, to the north. Banff is a well-stocked resort town with services for visitors regardless of their budget. Budget lodging or posh luxury hotels, various boutiques and restaurants, and supply stores for all sorts of summer and winter outdoor activities, they can all be found here. One downside is that Banff can feel a wee bit too touristy at times. For my stay in the Banff area, I stayed about 15 kilometers to the east, outside park limits, in the town of Canmore, which is more down to earth. I had managed to find and book a dormitory bed at the Hostel Bear in Canmore, for just $25 per night, which worked out just fine, considering that in the long Canadian daylight and given the wonderful scenery in the area, there was no point in booking a nice hotel room. |
