Summary
[edit]DescriptionBaneshwar Temple, Maheshwar Madhya Pradesh 041.jpg |
English: The Baneshwar temple of Maheshwar is perched on a small island in the middle of the Narmada River. Locals claim the temple to be from the 1st millennium, but the extant temple is from the time of Holkars who rebuilt the Hindu heritage of Maheshwar after the collapse of the Mughal Empire. More specifically, this temple is also credited to Ahilya Devi Holkar, also called Ahilya Bai or just Rajamata.
The temple is quite simple. It consists of a sanctum with a Nagara-style sikhara. Its charm is in being washed by the river, the boat ride and views of the Maheshwar ghats and fort from the temple site. |
