Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Looking north at the northeast corner of Nelson Park in Arnegard, North Dakota. Visible are the permanent marquee (left) and the wooden bandstand (right).

Set aside as a public park when the town was founded in 1913, a grant from the state of North Dakota Land & Water Conservation Fund added playground equipment to the park in 1977. (The spiral steel slide visible here was paid for with part of that grant.)

In the past 20 years, more play equipment has been added -- wooden and metal swing sets, a sandbox, plastic climbing equipment, a plastic slide, and gymnastic equipment like parallel bars and uneven bars. A wooden bandstand, a permanent wood and steel marquee with embedded picnic tables and seats, a storage shed, public restrooms, and a kitchen that can prepare and serve fast food have been added to the park. The southwest corner also has a concerete pad, where a temporary beer garden can be established.

Nelson Park is dedicated to Andrew Nelson, a long-time city resident who raised much of the funds that endowed the park with its equipment and structures.
