Summary
[edit]DescriptionBanderaLares.jpg |
English: 19th century Lares flag; permanent collection of Museum of History, Anthropology and Art, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedra lo Campus. This Grito de Lares flag is considered to have been adopted by the Revolutionary Committee of Puerto Rico for the Grito de Lares revolt of 1868 against Spanish authority in Puerto Rico. However, there are no primary written sources to authenticate this flag, thus its originality is in dispute. Most historians do not recognize it as original, but as a copy made by the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico in the 1930s based on contemporary but secondary and oral sources.[1][2] An exact illustration of the flag is featured here and an illustration of the flag with its most commonly used and widely accepted dimensions is featured here. This flag features a light blue called uranian blue (hex color code #afdbf5) and a deep red (hex color code #bb1515). The most common and widely accepted dimensions of the flag today can be found here. These are visually recognized by the government of Puerto Rico.[3] Several flags were made for the revolt in 1868, but only two have survived to this day. The other Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) flag is exhibited at the Museum of the Army in Toledo, Spain since its discovery in 2022.[4][1] |
