| Description |
English: Banbury Station, with Down freight passing. View SE, towards Oxford, London etc.: ex-GWR West Midlands main line. The view shows the station after its thorough - and overdue - post-war rebuilding in 1958, more commensurate with its importance as a major junction for north-south traffic with the ex-GC main line from Sheffield etc. The Down class D freight is headed by one of the very capable Churchward 2800 class 2-8-0s, No. 2822 (built 1/1907, withdrawn 11/64 - a service life of nearly 58 years). |
