This was not alone fromthe perfection of its design, butbecause it had a very clear appreciation to the following, whoso kindly gave their time and moneyin the construction of the float; Mr. AL B. Sprigg, who made thefloat possible by the loan of his truck;Messrs. R. Brooke, E. H. Nichols,H. Ti Fanshaw, C. C. Doyle, whopainted the signs; J. A. Fisher, R. D.Shoemaker, Jess Helmick, O. J. Kellv,P. T. Satterfield and the MissesMadge Hinzman and Bern iceBorneman. On the Sunday night following theopening of the Careful Crossing Cam-paign, Superintendent Trapnell ad-dressed the congregation of the FirstM. E. Church in Weston, amongwhom were many of our employes atthat point. He made effective useof the Safety work that has been ac-complished by the Baltimore andOhio, and asked for the support andcooperation of the church people inthe effort being made to stop theslaughter at railroad crossings.

No trouble to see what this float stood for! IT and SAFETY FIRST, wasentered in the Memorial Da_\ Paradeat Weston on May 30. It was con-structed around a lumber truckkindly .loaned by the Sprigg LumberCompany. The front end was made to looklike the boiler and cab of a passengerlocomotive. On the float itself werepainted signs, urging the public toassist the railroads in boosting the meaning, and was s\mbolic of whstnot only the Baltimore and Ohio, butevery Railroad in our United States istrjnng to do, namely be of real ser-vice to humanity by abolishing gradecrossing accidents, which are due en-tirely in so many cases to criminalcarelessness on the part of drivers ofautomobiles.
