Washingtons home still stands atMount Vernon, a few miles from Wash-ington, and from the capital city westto Pittsburgh the Baltimore and Ohioruns through the country, then a wilder-ness, in which Washington rendered hisfirst great public services. The traveler on the Baltimore andOhio may therefore enjoy a country notonly unsurpassed in scenic beauty butalso one which by virtue of its associationwith George Washington and the earlydays of the nation, is unequalled inhistoric interest. Some of the scenesand incidents which link the line of theFirst Railroad with the life of the FirstAmerican are of general knowledge.These will be but briefly mentionedwhile others
