en areright on the job. On September 18 ValleyWay schoolhouse, just above the shops, wasdiscovered to be on fire and the fire brigaderesponded with extinguishers and saved thebuilding. Fire Chief Counery of New Castlewas notified of the fire, and although theschoolhouse was out of the city limits, he madethe trip in his automobile (which is equippedwith extinguishers), but when he arrived,found the fire out and the Baltimore and Ohio brigade finishing the job. He commendedthem for their prompt and good work and theygot a nice write-up in the daily papers. The school directors of Taylor Townshipwere gratified to know of the assistance ren-dered by the fire brigade and gave them acheck to help defray the expense of a banquetwhich took place on October 17, at the homeof chief Abblett. Peter B. McDowell and Miss Ella Traverswere united in marriage October 17 and spenttheir honeymoon on a trip to Niagara Falls,Buffalo, New York and Washington. Theirhome will be on Crawford Avenue.
