an RailwayEngineering Association. The .Glossaryconsists of over 500 track terms and, whilesome of the definitions are of no engineer-ing importance, in general this is an inter-esting and an instructive feature of thebook. The book is convenient in size, the typography is good and the forty-eight illustrations are clear and well selected. F. R. Layng, in Association Affairs. Another Review Mr. Van Aukens book is a valuableaddition to maintenance of way Htera-ture. His explanations of doing work areeasily understood and although some ofhis methods are a little at variance withthose in general use, yet there is muchgood information for the trackman, es-pecially the description of the following: Care and use of tools, hand and motorcars. Organization of gangs for differentkinds of work. Frog and switch work. The definitions and tables in the backof the book also offer good information tothe student and worker in this branch ofrailroad activity. S. M. Church, Division Engineer,Baltimore.

The next chap came forward and ashedropped his copper into the contributionbox remarked: Waste not, want not. This w^as ruled somewhat out of order, but was fairly capped by the third littlefellow, who evidently considered theparting with his money not alone pain-ful, for as he dropped his penny into thebox he murmured: A fool and hismoney are soon parted.—T. N. Miranda. On an Overhead Trolley The street-car conductor was very im-patient. He w^as waiting for an elderlyand very stout lady to board his car, whenshe suddenly exclaimed, Conductor, conductor, will I get a shock if I step onthat rail?
