train before arriving at our present destination. The service over here is good, but does not com-pare with the dear old Baltimore and OhioRailroad. This country seems to be ratherrugged, with plenty of hills. Every person overhere has his or her special work to do. OurP^ourth of July was spent rather quiet. Allof the boys seem very anxious to get into actionand at present indications it will not be longbefore we are. We have splendid officersand cant be beat. When a mustardgas shell explodes it sends out a spray of smalldrops and before reaching the ground theyevaporate and form the gas. We have to take^ cry good care of our masks. They are a partof ourselves and no one would dare to carrythem in any way except in alert position. The helmets are hard to wear. If I keepmine on very long, it raises a bump on my fore-head; but I suppose like everything else, myhead will becom.e hard enough for it and it willnot bother me. Without rats in t
