Summary
[edit]DescriptionBallynamullan Burn, Cranny Mill site - geograph.org.uk - 664571.jpg |
English: Ballynamullan Burn, Cranny Mill site. There was a dam up stream from here about an acre in size called Leg of Mutton Pond. From there the water flowed 250 yards, through a leat, or lade to the mill and drove two 2oft water wheels and it was mostly farmer's oats that were ground.
Note: The leat is the artificial channel that feeds water from the water source to the waterwheel. The latter is often called a mill leat. (English in origin) The Scottish equivalent is a Lade or Mill Lade. |
